Royal Tokaji Vineyard Selected Furmint 2011
Gold Medal

Istvan Turóczi, Royal Tokaji's Vineyard & Winery Director, says "I am delighted and thrilled that our wines have done so well in the DWWA’s this year, it is a great tribute and achievement for our vineyard and winery teams to have won two of the 156 Regional Trophies and three of the 229 gold medals out of over 14,000 wines in this competition".

Royal Tokaji is leading the renaissance of the legendary wines of Tokaji; inspired by the great wines of the past but using the latest wine making techniques.

Royal Tokaji's Dry Furmint 2011 is a pure expression of the Furmint’s unique character. The final blend is half barrel-fermented and half tank-fermented maintaining a pure fruit character and great minerality.

The south-facing Szt Tamás vineyard where Royal Tokaji own 11 hectares is on the outskirts of Mád. The vineyard was classified as a first growth in 1730. In 2007 the alternating dry and wet days and a fair wind were perfect for the development of Botrytis, yielding very high quality Aszú wines. This wonderful amber wine has aromas of apricots and plums with fruity, minty spiciness and lively acidity on the palate culminating in a complex and long-lasting finish.

Royal Tokaji's Vineyard Selected Furmint is blended from grapes harvested in their first growth vineyards. This wine was barrel aged for eight months then bottle aged prior to recent release. It has a rich, elegant, complex nose and a fine buttery smooth palate.
